Chayenne Flohr - An outstanding student

Chayenne Flohr was one of my students in AlphaMax Academy’s Global Assessment Certificate program in Suriname three years ago.

Chayenne is a person I admire greatly. As a teacher you often learn a lot from your students. I was struck by Chayenne’s determination to do well in Academic work. Although she was the normal, friendly student she never wavered in her intention to prepare thoroughly for university work abroad.

Early in her GAC program Chayenne faced two life challenges that would have distracted most students. She was so shaken by these experiences that I was quickly forced to switch from my role as a regular teacher to that of a life coach. My school director Sean Taylor advised me to share some of my beliefs and life experiences with Chayenne.

Although Chayenne did not have similar beliefs, I was impressed with the quiet attention Chayenne gave me. She regained her emotional balance and began her course in earnest.

One of the aspects of the GAC course that provides great challenges for Surinamese students are the items requiring oral questions and doing presentations. Although Chayenne was quite friendly and comfortable in one on one conversations, I was surprised to discover how shy she was in front of a group. Even though the group was her fellow students Chayenne would go into real fear of speaking.

I let Chayenne know that a very high percentage of people are afraid of speaking in public even to groups of friends. I shared with her that I was quite shy myself at school and that a teacher had tricked me into beginning debating. However, with practice I had become a confident speaker.

I shared positive affirmations with her. I told her how Louise Hay affirmations had changed my life and teaching. Chayenne worked on her self confidence and beliefs about her communications skills. By the end of the course she was an eager and accomplished
presented.

As a student Chayenne was not only motivated to succeed, she wanted others in the group to do well. At one point I had to advise her that she was spending too much time trying to motivate on another student. I told her that sometimes others unconsciously drain our energy. I admired Chayenne’s efforts to ensure that the whole group perform well on all assignments.

As a person Chayenne worked well with all members of staff and all her fellow students. I truly believe that Chayenne will be a success in life in whatever profession she chooses.

Finally one of the things I most admired was Chayenne’s comfortable and positive relationship with her mother. It was one of the most outstanding parent daughter relationship I have seen in a lifetime of teaching.
